pause instruction and it's effectiveness

Hi All,
    I was looking to see if the pause instruction provided any gain on
across physical CPUs? Reading the documents from Intel suggests gains
only across logical CPUs within a physical CPU. Has anyone any data
that shows the benefit of pause across physical CPUs as well?
