how many cpus can freebsd support in smp?

[Cagle, John (ISS-Houston)]

I've had 8 real cpus running on a ProLiant DL740.  I tried to get 16 (8 =
with hyperthreading), but the kernel needs xapic or clustered apic =
support to do that.
