Thank you. I got the upgrade all answer also in closing a PR I submitted. 
Firefox notes might say you can not upgrade firefox, but I think that's 
like `pkg prime-origins`. I updated a test system and it worked. Just not 
going to take the chance on the system I need for work. Chrome is fine and 
thunderbird works so I am functional.

Re `pkg check -Bds` did not know that combination, thanks, I will look into 
it.
