Several years ago I wrote a program that used a lot of processing power
and several cores.  I tried it out on both Linux and FreeBSD over
several months.  I found that as Linux or FreeBSD were updated, first
one was faster, than the other.

So those seemingly useless answers of "it depends" are definitely correct.
