Which version of freebsd Is faster: amd64 or i386?

Depends. On a amd64-capable system, using i386 might be interesting
because less RAM is needed; I don't know about execution speed of
32 bit code on a 64 bit CPU. If the system does not have more than
approx. 4 GB, i386 won't reach the maximum amount of memory it can
manage without PAE. So maybe on older 64 bit system it might actually
be an advantage to use i386, as long as you don't need any specific
software that's only available on amd64.

On a i386-capable system, amd64 of course won't even work. :-)
