This isn't even a new feature: my old version of Sylpheed
supports "reply", "reply to sender", "reply to mailing list"
and "reply to all"; as long as the relevant message headers
are intact, this should work as expected. However, I assume
that the use of "reply to all" is so convenient it is often
preferred to "reply to mailing list", that's why sometimes
replies are send "twice"...
