development env. setup success/probs/tweaks?

I am interested in successful installation, configuration, and use of the following environments, applications, and modules.
If you have had success, can you let me know, and, can I contact you in followup(s) later on w/r/t any special cases, 
tweaks, gotchas, etc. you mention in conjunction with your selection(s)?
