Boot halts at trying to mount root

Does /dev/gpt/HoD_Root exist after you've booted via your thumb drive? 
Is the root partition there but under a different label perhaps?

What does 'gpart show -l ada0' tell you?  (Replace 'ada0' for whatever 
device name is correct for your boot drive)
