how to set hostname on a cable line?

In my limited understanding, you will be better off using a raspberry pi
(for low footprint) in your network, ruining freebsd and dnsmasq, offering
DNS and DHCP service to the network. Disable DHCP on the router, and that
router is not expected to offer DNS for local network zone (it only
resolves public IP from upstream DNS server).
