Use openssl/devel instead of base OpenSSL?

I've installed openssl-devel-1.1.0h_1 and want my system to use it rather
than the default installed OpenSSL 1.0.2o

After installing from the openssl/devel port, the command: openssl version
still shows:

OpenSSL 1.0.2o-freebsd  27 Mar 2018

How do I get my system to use the Devel version of OpenSSL instead?
