Can I use FreeBSD as a desktop system?

I guess that is one reason, even on Linux MIDI jitter is an issue, but
there are at least some improvements, when using jackd with special ALSA
options. Apart from this I suspect FreeBSD can't compare to the Linux
real-time patch and that more pro-sumer, let alone pro-audio cards are
supported by Linux.

However, professional audio, even hobby audio, is a nice and the OP
probably just wants to know, if FreeBSD is for servers only, or also a
reasonable OS for desktop usage, in the sense of e.g. office work. IOW
we shouldn't capture this thread for a discussion about pro-audio.

I only wanted to point out that _no_ OS is superb in all domains.
