You obviously didn't install the ports collection. That's why
you cannot build from source.
Please read the next paragraph. The command
# pkg install xorg
will install a precompiled binary package for X via Internet.
Yes, it is that easy, and it's clearly pointed out in the
documentation.
I assume you already have networking enabled. If not:

If needed:

Here is how to use pkg in general:

If you still with to build X from source (for whatever reason),
obtain the ports tree
https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/ports-using.html
But that should not be a priority for you at this point.
