BSD is short for "Berkeley Software Distribution", an
early UNIX-like operating system that was the basis of
many modern descendants, such as FreeBSD, OpenBSD or
NetBSD. The abbreviation is also used for "flavors"
of those operating systems, i. e. modified, preconfigured
and customized versions (for example PC-BSD, today called
TrueOS, MidnightBSD, TrustedBSD). Ideas and concepts
of BSD can even be found in Apple's Mac OS X.

Allow me a little sidenote:
It is advised to write the question into the message body,
not in the subject (and leave the message body basically
empty). The subject line should summarize the general
topic of the question.
