problems receiving mail after freebsd-update to 10.3-p18

Greetings,
   If I have posted to the wrong list, please redirect me.
   After doing freebsd-update fetch/install on a 10.3-p17 system I noticed that the kernel had changed, so rebooted the system.  From then until I rebooted after a freebsd-update rollback, I received no outside mail, only the daily periodic mail from root.  There were no errors in /var/log/maillog.  There have been no other changes to the system at all recently.  Freebsd-update rollback and a reboot caused mail to start being received from the backup MX.  Anyone have any insights or suggestions?  One other curiosity is that after the rollback, dmesg differs from freebsd-version:
