no network after 9.2 -> 10.0 upgrade

I did a freebsd-update upgrade -r 10.0-RELEASE (on a 9.2-p15)|.


All seemed to run smooth until I rebooted the last time when it said 
"reboot and perform a freebsd-update install".


After that reboot ifconfig showed an re0 without an ipv4 address assigned.


Has the /etc/rc.conf mechanism changed?

uname -a shows I'm at 10.0-RELEASE-p18
