This should work. I'm currently running FreeBSD 8 (i386) on my
amd64-compatible (64 bit) home system. Just keep in mind there
are some limitations (like the amound of RAM usable, or the width
of certain data types).

Example:

	% uname -m
	i386

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz (1799.81-MHz 686-class CPU),
which is an amd64-type CPU.
