It was a long time ago that i did this. Well HAL is in ports, so i guess 
it's
not obsolete yet. I did try both versions, mine and yours and it worked 
then.

Nowadays i don't care much about it since i don't have a laptop, do have 
an arduino
and will get a 3d-printer tomorrow (2016-12-29)
