Part of the reason I ask is that I did a NetBSD 6.1.5 install early in 
the summer, & was able to resize the partitions there using their fdisk. 
However, some of the args appear to be either different functionality or 
missing in the FreeBSD version. It was quite helpful to log the install 
process & ask questions along the way with actual output info, rather 
than reconstructed from memory ....
