Wrong colors in weechat (ssh+tmux): ncurses causes the problem?

Weechat displays wrong colors on my FreeBSD server.

I assume that it's related to ncurses since testing the 256 colours in a
regular shell + tmux works fine. Somewhere I read (I don't have the link
at hand right now) that once there was a option for devel/ncurses to
build it with 256 colours but the option was dropped.

Is it that ncurses now supports 256 colours by default or do I have to
tweak something somewhere?
