ZFS in a VM?

I know a guy who did this but it was kind of sleazy. He wasn't talking
to the disks themselves rather to a file/block device created under
VMWare then attached to the VM. To VMWare it was a file on the disk. To
the VM is was a disk. Not a lot of value there.
