Replacing cpu

Generally speaking, *even if* the sockets match, and *even if* the board
firmware can handle it, and *even if* there aren't any foreseeable software
problems, if installing a particular CPU model wasn't an option for the laptop
when the laptop was first purchased, using that CPU would be a very bad idea. So
without knowing the laptop model (or how you concluded this was certainly a CPU
problem), I wouldn't guess at an answer myself.
