If the OP found DIA non-intuitive I'd like to hear his appreciation of Xfig :-D
IIRC Xfig even requires a 3 button mouse! Nevertheless, it's an
awesome 2D drafting tool.
Nowadays I prefer Inkscape and for charting DIA is definitively "it"
in terms of OSS charting tools.
