Invalid time in real time clock

Yes, it does.  I just left the machine unplugged for twenty minutes
and when I restarted it, the BIOS still had the correct time.

Mysteriously enough, the invalid time warning is gone now, too.
I'm not sure I want to draw any conclusion from that.
