If you don't have ld-elf.so.1, then you're not going to be running any
programs that use shared libraries. Which is pretty much every program
you'ld care to mention, except for a few specially linked
special-purpose ones.

i.e. your system is pretty much hosed.

If this is the case, then you're looking at measures like restoring
from backup or booting from the install media and performing heroic
feats of Unix Sysadmining to get it back.

If it isn't the case, and you do, in fact, have a workable ld-elf.so.1
on your system, then the fact that you see such an alarming error
message like that is still an indication of something pretty serious
having gone wrong, and you should be feverishly making backups and
preparing to rebuild your server.

The sort of thing that could cause ld-elf.so.1 to disappear would be a
near terminal failure of your hard drive. If so, now is a good time to
replace it, and as you'll be installing a new version of the system,
take the chance to upgrade to something that's still supported. If it's
not the drive then suspect some other sort of hardware problem.

	Cheers,

	Matthew
