You should suuply more information: What kind of hardware
are you using? What _exact commands_ did you run and what
was the _reply_ to those commands? Those error messages
are important to avoid guessing. You can use the "script"
command to create a good log and trim it to the relevant
parts which you should send to the list.

Surprising reboots can be hardware issues (unstable power,
insufficient cooling, defective RAM and so on), but can
also relate to file system defects (boot into single user
mode and force a fsck on all involved partitions).
