system hangs on; "Probing devices, please wait (this can take a while)... "

Ok I booted on the 8.0 live CD and pressed Alt-F2 when it gets hung. In verbose 
mode it says this:

Remember, this boots up perfectly fine with Windows 7 CD, Linux CD, FreeBSD 4.6 
live CD and my Norton Ghost CD which can see all the partitions. Only FreeBSD 
7.2, 8.0 and 9.0 CDs hang and maybe older ones too that I haven't tried but not 
4.6.
