I've always found a test restore works wonders for the peace of my mind.



Two types:



cd <dest dir>

restore -Nrf <backupfilename>



To test that it all "appears" it ought to restore.  Then, 


cd <dest dir>

restore -if <backupfilename> 



To confirm a few files restore properly completely.

YMMV, and obviously check man restore!
