xdm freezes - 7.2-RELEASE installed

I thought /usr/ports/UPDATING is only created when you appraise your
ports with a view toward updating. I.e, after a fresh install of 7.2
(not an upgrade from 7.1), I didn't think the UPDATING file would be
very helpful.
