ifdown/ifup under FreeBSD?

Usually I do this from remote with /etc/rc.d/netif restart &&
/etc/rc.d/routing restart &
Maybe you are not root (because of the $ prompt)?
#/etc/rc.d/netif restart && /etc/rc.d/routing restart &
This always works for me
