I have done almost the same thing, only with pam:

 > grep sasl /etc/rc.conf
saslauthd_enable='yes'
saslauthd_flags='-apam -n1'

 > cat /etc/pam.d/imap
auth required pam_krb5.so no_warn try_first_pass
