pseudoterminals question

Ok, I tried to recompile the kernel.  I have modified the GENERIC as follows:
device          pty  64          # Pseudo-ttys (telnet etc)

Here is the compilation result:
config: /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC:268: syntax error
*** Error code 1

So what is the correct syntax?
