if it's freebsd-only drive, why using fdisk at all?

i live very well without it on ALL machines i installed.

you simply get (for example)

/dev/ad0a instead of ad0s1a etc.

you bsdlabel ad0 instead of ad0s1.

don't forget to bsdlabel -B ad0 if it's boot disk

replace ad0 to whatever your disk is
