qmail+wu-imap+squirrelmail

I'm trying to setup qmail with squirrelmail thus wu-imap on  Freebsd 
6.2  .  imap is  not authenticating  the user and I dont know why.

Try:

telnet 216.236.255.45 143
a1 login test 0

and  see what I'm talking about.
