"term: Undefined variable" emitted after startup scripts

On bootup, I see the message repeated several 
times, "term: Undefined variable".  

What is causing this message and what must I 
change to eliminate it?  I want to rule it out as a 
factor contributing to my difficulty starting jabberd2 
on bootup (c2s is the client-to-server component of 

    Starting ntpd.
    Starting usbd.
    Starting jabberd.
    term: Undefined variable.
    Starting proftpd.
    Removing stale Samba tdb files:
    Starting nmbd.
    ERROR: c2s died.  Shutting down server.
    Starting smbd.
    Starting mysql.
    term: Undefined variable.
    Starting webmin.
    Starting jabberd_users_agent.
    Starting mu_conference.
    term: Undefined variable.

    Performing sanity check on apache2 
    Syntax OK
    Starting apache2.
    Configuring syscons:
    Starting sshd.
    Starting cron.
    Local package initialization:
    Starting background file system checks in 60
