I installed smartmontools from ports on FreeBSD 6.0 on a Compaq Proliant DL360 with smart array 5i controller. I compiled it with ciss support. When running ‘smartctl -i -d cciss,0 /dev/ida0’ I am getting:

smartctl version 5.37 [i386-portbld-freebsd6.0] Copyright (C) 2002-6 Bruce Allen
Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/
CCISS ioctl error: Inappropriate ioctl for device
CCISS ioctl error: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Short INQUIRY response, skip product id
A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T permissive' options.

However, adding -T permissive options doesn't make a difference.
Searching the archives and the web didn't bring a solution. I hope someone out there has one.
