Why do you think it needs to be solved all at once?  Nothing ever gets
done that way.  You have learned something that you say is not
documented, so the solution is for you to document it.

Go on, pull out your favourite editor, edit the ports(7) manpage, then
send-pr the diff.  I dare you :)
