man xorg.conf

example:
Section "Screen"
         Identifier "Screen0"
         Device "Card0"
         Monitor "Monitor0"
         DefaultDepth 24
         DefaultFbBPP 32
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 24
                 Modes "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
         EndSubSection
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 4
         EndSubSection
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 8
                 Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
         EndSubSection
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 15
         EndSubSection
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 16
                 Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
         EndSubSection
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 24
         EndSubSection
EndSection
