It also happens to break some mailers.  I'm sure it's not very hard to
use something else?  I usually resort to "block quoted paragraphs", i.e.:

    This material is copied from another source.

or even to a slightly different quoting character, as in:

    On 2006-02-24 10:55, Kristian Vaaf <vaaf at broadpark.no> wrote:

I'm a formatting and layout freak, though, so that doesn't apply to
everybody else, I guess :)
