I followed the advice of Kevin Kinsey and tried it out.
It's working. Just like Gentoo's Emerge (emerge -Kav xterm)
The only thing (again) unnerving is this statement.

and may not be deinstalled (but I'll delete it anyway): <--- *anyway*??
