How do I get out of this mess?

Broken pipe
df
Filesystem  1K-blocks     Used    Avail Capacity  Mounted on
/dev/da0s1a     99183    98644    -7395   108%    /
I tried to do a backup:
cd /
mkdir archive
tar -zcvpf /archive/full-backup-`date '+%Y-%B-%d'`.tar.gz  --directory / --exclude=mnt --exclude=proc --exclude=archive --exclude=cache .
What did I do wrong, and how to fix it and do it right?
