IPFW won't go away!

Did you install the kernel after building? At least
the one without the IPFIREWALL* option?
(in /usr/src)
make buildkernel KERNCONF=MYKERNEL
make installkernel KERNCONF=MYKERNEL

Also check /boot/loader.conf for ipfw_load="YES"
and make sure /boot/defaults/loader.conf says
ipfw_load="NO".
