Okay, then you need to look at the traffic.  In particular, you'll
need to keep an eye on the TCP send window as the transfer progresses.

That's not necessarily the case.  The timing changes, and it is quite
often enough to keep the next packet from stepping on the toes of the
response to the previous one.
