hello,

i hope i'm replying correctly. do i reply to: all, author, or mailing list?
i'm grateful for replies i've received so far, and impressed that it's come
in faster than i'm able to actually take advantage of, what with work going
on.

the exact text i used, following your earlier recommendation to look for start
up scripts and a subsequent suggestion from Andrew Heyn, was:

grep -Ri "permissions are set properly at boot" /etc/

the result i received at that point,

/etc/devfs.conf:perm xpt0 0666 #permissions are set properly at boot

seems to support your original suspicion.
