"./sshd start" then nothing

Did you enable ssh in rc.conf?  I'm pretty sure the scripts in rc.d won't
start unless you enable them there.  Alternatively, "./sshd forcestart" should
make it start no matter what.  "man 8 rc.d" for more info.
