Compiling perl5.8.5 fails in chroot'ed environment

Hi,

I am trying to setup a diskless client, so I have created a directory
/usr/diskless and installed FreeBSD 5.3 into it. I then unpacked
ports.tgz from the release and cvsup'ed yesterday.

If I chroot into /usr/diskless and try to compile perl5.8 I get the
following error:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/ports/lang/perl5.8/work/perl-5.8.5 ./miniperl -Ilib
-e 'use AutoSplit; autosplit_lib_modules(@ARGV)' lib/*/*.pm
make lib/re.pm
"makefile", line 915: Need an operator
make: fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/lang/perl5.8/work/perl-5.8.5.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/lang/perl5.8.

It only fails in the chroot'ed environment, even though the chroot has a
full bootable base. I have successfully installed lynx, bash, libiconv,
libtool and gettext in this environment.

How do I correct this?

Thanks, Erik
