FreeBSD PNP OS = NO in system bios configuration?

Yes, it should be set to "NO" for any operating system. The only
exception is Windows 95/98.

This should not be necessary. You could try to load "setup
defaults" in your BIOS and use FreeBSD 5.3 instead of 5.2.1.
