Sendmail + No Response from Port 25

Hey Gang--
 
I need some advice, I am running FreeBSD 5.3 and am having problems getting sendmail to be accessable from outside the LAN.  If I am on the LAN and perform a "telnet 192.168.1.254 25" sendmail responds.  But anywhere outside of the LAN I cannot get sendmail to respond.  I can telnet to it just fine remotely as well as Ftp.  I am using PPP since I have a PPPoE connection.
 
Any advice?
