Quake2 graphics twicthy under normal user but not under root

[Grover Lines]

My Quake2 runs perfect under root smooth as can be. Under a normal user
however it seems like every few seconds or every second the graphics twictch
a bit or jerk. I don't have any applets running in the background and am
using the exact same configs.

 

Running 6-CURRENT 9-2-2004 and X.org CURRENT 9-2-2004. 

 

Just wondering what  would cause this or is it running at a different
priority.
