Kernel Compile slow on 5.x series?

The reason why it takes longer to compile a 5.* kernel is the
difference in the architecture. The 5.* kernels handle the hardware
differently than the 4.* kernels.

Negative, the gcc 3.* compiler is used only in FreeBSD versions onwards 5.3.
