nss_ldap, sendmail and ls

This amounts to only a hint, but my copy of the port says
	"Currently this is an experimental port, with
	support only for the `passwd' and `group' databases."
which sounds very much like the problem you describe. You 
may need to use a more complete ldap system such as openldap
which is also in the ports.
